Underwater Maternity with Anna & Julio
She grew up in Hawaii and he grew up surfing in California – so an Underwater Photo Session to celebrate their first pregnancy was naturally fitting. After doing a Google search for underwater photographers, Anna and Julio found Flashpool Productions and decided the they would make the trip from Shreveport, Louisiana to Austin, Texas.
Taking advantage of this little getaway, Anna and Julio turned their trip into a three-day “baby moon” so they could enjoy all the best things Austin and the Hill Country have to offer! I was happy to make suggestions on accommodations and the best BBQ joints like Coopers in Llano and the Salt Lick in Dripping Springs. They also planned to visit Jacobs Well and nearby caverns. There’s so much to do and see in Austin and the surrounding areas. Live music and entertainment, incredible restaurants, breweries, distilleries and wineries galore and endless options for outdoor enthusiasts - hiking, biking, kayaking, climbing and the list goes on. If you’re considering a trip here, do it! You’ll fall in love with all that Austin has to offer.
On the day of our shoot, Anna and Julio showed up relaxed and excited to get in the water. Anna opted for a professional makeup artist and chose a natural pallet for her look. Having your makeup done on the day of your shoot is a great option for feeling pampered and prepared for your special shoot.
She had two looks in mind for wardrobe - one natural and one bold. She made her choices from the selections I prepared for her based on our pre-consultation conversations.
As soon as we entered the pool, it was clear that Anna was right at home in the water. I slowly walked her through breathing, submerging and posing techniques and within the first couple of submersions, we created effortlessly elegant images. After working one-on-one with her, Julio joined in on the fun so we could get shots of them together. In the two hours we spent shooting, we had plenty of time to get tons of amazing shots and even take a couple of hot tub breaks.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting this sweet couple from Louisiana and hope that someday I get the opportunity to meet their son! Below are the amazing shots we got together during their maternity session, including the highlight video that came with their Splash Package.

I was extremely impressed by her ability to coach myself and my husband into poses that looked effortless, teaching us how to hold our breaths to get underwater and making sure that the gowns and flowers we had framed us for epic shots. You can go in knowing literally nothing about taking good photos and she will walk you through everything you need to know. My husband said after the fact that he unexpectedly really enjoyed the photo shoot and our time with Sarah (he doesn’t get as excited about photo shoots as I do 😂).
